Equifax Forced to Pay $18.6 Million After Failing to Fix Oregon Woman’s Credit Report

Julie Miller of Marion County Oregon asked Equifax numerous times over the course of 3 years to fix the inaccurate accounts and personal information on her credit report. Mrs. Miller tried contacting Equifax between 2009 to 2011 to remove information from her report that was for another Julie Miller. By law, it is a requirement for the bureaus to provide a updated credit report annually in which Equifax failed to do so in this case.
A Judgement was awarded to the Plaintiff for $18.4 million in punitive and $180,000 in compensatory damages. This is the largest pay out that Equifax has had to fork out to a consumer. The case is expected to be appealed.
